POSITION OVERVIEW:

If you love live performances, know your way around backstage, and enjoy making shows happen, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for a Theatrical Technician to help bring performances, events, and community experiences to life at The ACT Arts Centre and other City facilities and festivals. This is a hands-on role for someone who’s comfortable working across lighting, sound, staging, rigging, and event set up in a fast-paced, creative environment.
You’ll work closely with artists, performers, renters, staff, and event teams to help deliver smooth, safe, and professional productions from load-in to load-out.

What You’ll Do
•    Help with load-ins and load-outs for performances, events, and rentals
•    Set up, operate, and strike lighting, audio, staging, projection, and rigging equipment
•    Hang, focus, and adjust lighting fixtures
•    Support live events and troubleshoot technical issues as they come up
•    Assist with scenic setup and installation, including basic stage elements and production materials
•    Safely operate theatrical systems, including counterweight fly systems and rigging equipment
•    Provide friendly, front-line support to artists, performers, clients, staff, and patrons
•    Help keep technical equipment organized, maintained, and stored properly
•    Follow safety procedures, identify hazards, and contribute to a safe working environment


What We’re Looking For:
•    Working knowledge of theatrical lighting, audio, staging, and basic rigging
•    Experience supporting live performances, events, or venue operations
•    Strong communication and teamwork skills
•    A professional, helpful approach when working with performers, clients, and the public
•    Good problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly during live events
•    A strong commitment to safe work practices
•    The ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working at heights

Required Qualifications:
•    Working knowledge of ETC Eos Lighting Console
•    Working knowledge of DiGiCo Sound Console
•    Occupational First Aid Level 1
•    Valid Aerial Platform and/or Fall Arrest Certification
•    Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Actsafe Live Performance Electrical Certification (LPEC)
•    BC FE (Full Entertainment) or LE (Limited Entertainment) Certification
•    Valid Aerial Platform and/or Fall Arrest Certification

Working Environment:
This role works in a live event setting, which means the schedule will include evenings, weekends, and event-based hours.
The work is active and physical, and you’ll be moving between backstage, front-of-house support, and event spaces as needed.

Hours of Work:
This is an auxiliary position and requires regular evening and weekend availability.  The hours of work are approximately 10-15 hours per week.  Shift lengths normally range from 4 to 7 hours.   Additional hours may be required based on operational needs. Average hours of work 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm.
