POSITION OVERVIEW:

 

The City of Maple Ridge is seeking enthusiastic individuals to lead children in a recreation environment. This role offers the chance to develop leadership skills within a team and create a fun, safe, active, and inclusive experience for children aged 3 to 12 years. Recreation leader 1 staff work in both indoor and outdoor settings throughout the year engaging children in various activities and games. Foster a positive and inclusive environment. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Build professional relationships with children and staff. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10, plus some relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Some knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction of recreation programs.
Some knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work.
Ability to provide leadership and instruction for special events, programs, camps and other activities.
Ability to work as part of a team, communicating and collaborating well with others
Ability to lead and communicate effectively with program participants.
Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C.

 

HOURS OF WORK

This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).
