POSITION OVERVIEW:
We have an exciting opportunity in our Information Technology Department for a Temporary Full-Time Database Administrator 1. Reporting to the Project Manager, ERP System, you will play a key role in supporting a large-scale ERP implementation project. This includes planning, designing, developing, installing, monitoring, and optimizing the City’s corporate database systems, with a focus on data migration and integration, particularly between financial, HR, and other critical systems.
You will collaborate with internal and external interest holders to deliver business technology solutions, ensuring seamless data transfers and system integrations during the ERP implementation, including developing short and long-term strategies for data management, maintenance, environment growth, and the implementation of new technologies such as MS Azure DBaaS. Additionally, you will perform tests, maintain database performance, and manage upgrades to replace aging business systems.
You will ensure proper allocation of resources (disk space, memory, CPU, etc.) and recommend changes to optimize performance. Maintaining accurate test, development, and staging environments to match production will also be key.
You will compile and maintain documentation on existing and proposed database environments and work with IT teams to implement and support database technologies. You will also assist with data modeling and development, ensuring optimized design, data consistency, security, and compliance with privacy policies during migration and integration phases of the ERP project.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science including or supplemented by courses in database management and administration plus sound related experience preferably in a municipal environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Thorough knowledge of problem definition and analysis related to business processes and systems planning.
• Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques associated with database fundamentals, including administration, development, and design and management.
• Considerable knowledge in establishing standards, procedures and policies that ensure the integrity, security, availability and recovery of all data resources.
• Considerable knowledge of the operating techniques and procedures used in server installations and upgrades and computer installation.
• Considerable knowledge of the operations and functions of departments served and their requirements as applied to the work performed.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate data requirements and to prepare recommendations regarding the advisability and feasibility of incorporating changes or additions to the corporate data model.
• Ability to prepare detailed designs for all databases including physical and logical data structures, and to control shared usage of data throughout the corporation to maintain optimal performance.
• Ability to read and understand computer programs combining creativity with technical and analytical elements with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of contacts and to provide advice and assistance on matters related to the work.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Addtional Information:
This is a 1 year temporary assignment. Duration of assignment may shortened or extended based on organizational needs.
