POSITION OVERVIEW:
The City of Maple Ridge is seeking passionate leaders with experience working with children aged 3 to 12 in a recreation setting. This role offers experiential skill development, training, and guidance within established policies and procedures and under the direction of supervisors. Candidates must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, work well within a team environment, and provide safe supervision to children in group settings, both indoors and outdoors, throughout the year.
A Recreation Leader 2 will provide instruction and programming for early years, day camps, out trips, events, and licensed childcare programs. This front-line position requires leaders to actively lead and participate in activities with children, organize supplies and resources, complete forms, solve problems, manage conflicts within a group setting, and maintain communication with teams, supervisors, and parents. This work is crucial to ensuring the safe supervision of children in programs. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 10 supplemented by courses related to the work, plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction of recreation programs.
Some knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work.
Ability to provide leadership and instruction for special events, programs, camps and other activities.
Ability to work as part of a team, communicating and collaborating well with others
Ability to lead and communicate effectively with program participants.
Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C.
HOURS OF WORK
This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).

High Five Training
Food Safe Certificate
20 Hours of Responsible Adult Training
