POSITION OVERVIEW
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Fitness Trainer to become an integral part of our recreation team! In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for helping clients achieve their health and wellness goals through expert guidance, motivation, and personalized support.
Your primary duties will include conducting individual assessments to evaluate clients' fitness levels and needs, creating tailored workout programs, and leading both personal and group training sessions. You'll demonstrate the safe and effective use of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, ensuring clients are using proper form and technique to prevent injury and maximize results.
You’ll play a key role in maintaining a positive and encouraging atmosphere within our fitness centre, fostering a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment where clients feel motivated to reach their full potential. The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment within established guidelines, and adapt your approach to meet the needs of diverse clients is essential. In this position, leadership and measurable results will be critical indicators of your success. We’re looking for someone who is not only knowledgeable and professional but also passionate about empowering others to improve their overall health and well-being.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a diploma or certification program in community recreation, leadership and/or sports science, and sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Sound knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of individual weight training and fitness programs and of the various types of weight training equipment.
• Sound knowledge of current personal training industry standards and methods of practice.
• Sound knowledge of applicable policies, regulations and rules governing the work performed.
• Working knowledge of the principals of anatomy and physiology as it applies to the work performed.
• Ability to oversee weight room and recreational gym operations when leading an individual or group training session.
• Working knowledge of fitness equipment machines and ability to do assessment and minor repairs.
• Ability to evaluate individual’s fitness levels, develop individual weight training and fitness programs, and provide advice and guidance relative to health and fitness matters.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and deal tactfully and diplomatically with a variety of customers.
• Ability to prepare and maintain correspondence, records and reports.
• Ability to present ideas and viewpoints effectively both orally and in writing.
• Skill in the operation of a variety of equipment used in programs for health, wellness and fitness facilities.
HOURS OF WORK
This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing regular schedule of hours.
REQUIRED LICENCES, CERTIFICATE & REGISTRATIONS
BC Recreation and Park Association Basic Fitness Leaders – Weight Training (or equivalent).
BC Recreation and Park Association Personal Trainer Certification (or equivalent).
Standard First Aid Certificate
CPR/AED Certification.
