POSITION OVERVIEW


The City of Maple Ridge is excited to welcome passionate Recreation Leaders to join our Children’s Programs team. If you love high-energy days, working as part of a supportive team, and helping kids build confidence through play, this is a fun and rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in our community.

As a Recreation Leader 2, you’ll help deliver engaging indoor and outdoor programs for preschool and school-age children—think group games, arts & crafts, themed events, day camps, out trips, safety-focused activities, and recreation and sport programs. You may lead sports and active games like soccer, basketball, floor hockey, cooperative games, and introductory multi-sport skill development that supports teamwork, physical literacy, and a love of movement.

You’ll create inclusive, welcoming spaces where every child feels safe, supported, and excited to participate. This is a front-line role for a positive, caring leader who models great customer service, promotes fair play and skill progression, and follows established City policies, safety standards, and procedures—while keeping fun at the heart of every activity. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction of recreation programs. 
Some knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work. 
Some knowledge of organizing and planning for program delivery. 
Ability to provide leadership and instruction for special events, programs, camps and outdoor activities. 
Ability to deal with and communicate effectively with program participants. 
Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 10 and supplemented by courses related to the work with some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

REQUIRED LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Valid Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR/AED, Level C. 
Please note: Emergency/Basic First Aid & CPR – A or B are not valid for this position.

  • Standard/Intermediate First Aid & CPR/AED, level C Training: 2 days in-class or blended, approximately 16 hours, certification is valid for 3 years
  • Standard/Intermediate First Aid & CPR/AED, level C  RE- CERTIFICATION Training, previously completed a full course, renew certification prior to expiry, 1 day approximately class, 8 hours, valid for 3 years.

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    National Coaching Certification Program
•    High Five Certification
•    Food Safe Certificate
•    High Five Certification, Principals of Healthy Child Development, Sport
•    Physical Literacy & Fundamental Movement Skills Training.

HOURS OF WORK
This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).

Please note: Recreation Services summer day camp programs operate Monday to Friday between 8AM – 5:30PM, depending on the program. Candidates working day camps can anticipated hours between 4 to 8 hours a day from June 29 – September 4, 2026.
