POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Project Engineer – Transportation plays a key role in planning, managing, and delivering transportation infrastructure projects that enhance mobility and safety within the community. Projects may include road upgrades, traffic calming, active transportation initiatives, pedestrian and cycling improvements, and bridge rehabilitation.

In this role, you will manage projects through all phases—planning, design, procurement, construction, and completion—ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget, and to high quality standards. You will collaborate with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders, while also engaging with the public to address transportation-related needs. Additionally, you will provide guidance to junior staff, conduct peer reviews, and contribute to the development of policies and standards that shape the City’s transportation network.

 

In This Role You Will:

Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned transportation policy, infrastructure and strategic planning initiatives and projects and development reviews.

Lead initiatives from initiation through completion, including design, procurement, construction, and close-out.

Prepare and evaluate Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), and Invitations to Tender.

Manage construction contracts in alignment with Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD).

Review development proposals and provide guidance to Engineering and Planning Staff on transportation related improvements.

Provide technical guidance to staff, review bylaws/policies, and recommend updates.

Build strong relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders, consultants, and the public.

Communicate engineering concepts and project updates clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery.

Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor of Applied Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of recent related experience.

Membership or eligibility for immediate membership as a registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).

Class 5 Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license.
