POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a Crime Prevention Unit Supervisor to join our Community Policing team to lead and implement community crime prevention programs.  This position is responsible for the organization, direction and coordinating of volunteer community policing services and crime prevention programs.  Overseeing the work of crime prevention staff and volunteers ensuring service delivery aligns to program goals and objectives relating to community safety.  Duties also include recruiting, interviewing, selecting, scheduling, directing and motivating a large group of volunteers, promoting crime prevention programs and services, presenting workshops and training sessions and identifying the need for and implementing crime prevention programs and activities. The incumbent will also be skilled in preparing reports, draft grant proposals, monitor expenditures and liaise with a wide variety of community groups and stakeholders within the community.

 

DESIREABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in supervision, office/business administration, volunteer management and training plus considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of objectives, functions, policies and procedures related to the work.
Considerable knowledge of modern administrative methods and procedures and software applications.
Considerable knowledge of methods and practices used in supervising, motivating and assessing volunteers and staff and in directing contractors.
Considerable knowledge of the services available through community agencies and the needs of various organizations, businesses and individuals. 
Ability to coordinate, direct and evaluate the effectiveness of a variety of community policing services and programs.
Ability to plan, assign, supervise and review the work of program subordinates, to train and motivate staff and volunteers and to participate in interviewing, selecting, and evaluating same.
Ability to direct the work of contractors.
Ability to present ideas effectively orally and in writing, to promote program activities and to make presentations. 
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.
Ability to develop work methods, provide input on program policy and procedures, develop training materials, and prepare a variety of records, reports and correspondence related to the work.
Skill in the operation of office equipment and software used in the work.

 

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia. 
Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance.


HOURS OF WORK:
Evening and weekend will be required from time to time to support community events.

Hours of work are governed by Schedule “B” (M) - based on article 12.01 which may, at the discretion of the Commanding officer of the R.C.M.P. or his/her duly appointed representative, work any seven (7) hours between the hours of 7:00 am and 12:00 midnight, Monday to Sunday, inclusive, with shift differential as per Article 13.10. When shifts are changed, or positions hired, employees in the positions will be given shift preference on the basis of seniority.
