POSITION OVERVIEW
The City of Maple Ridge is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to support and lead children in a dynamic recreation setting. This position provides an opportunity to build leadership and teamwork skills while creating a safe, engaging, active, and inclusive environment for children ages 3 to 12. Recreation Leader 1 staff work year-round in both indoor and outdoor settings, facilitating a variety of activities and games. Successful candidates will promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere, follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, and develop professional relationships with both children and colleagues. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction of recreation programs.
Some knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work.
Ability to provide leadership and instruction for special events, programs, camps and other activities.
Ability to work as part of a team, communicating and collaborating well with others
Ability to lead and communicate effectively with program participants.
Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 10, plus some relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C
HOURS OF WORK
This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).
