POSITION OVERVIEW
The Fitness and Sport Facility Attendants play a vital role in ensuring safety and order within the fitness center, gymnasium, and other fitness areas. The Fitness and Sport Facility Attendant provide valuable assistance and guidance to customers, ensuring proper usage of exercise equipment. Additionally, the incumbent are entrusted with the responsible maintenance and effective utilization of facility equipment. The role also encompasses the setup and dismantling of equipment for various programs, as well as regular equipment cleaning. While adhering to established guidelines, this position may involve independent decision-making within the bounds of policies and procedures. Complex or uncommon issues are escalated to a supervisor, while the Fitness and Sport Facility Attendant is encouraged to display initiative and independent action.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by weight training, fitness or other recreation courses and a minimum of six months related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of the methods used in proper exercise programs and the use of exercise equipment.
- Ability to answer general and specific questions related to physical fitness and exercise.
- Ability to provide general information to individuals and groups on physical fitness exercises.
- Ability to orient patrons in the use of fitness centre facilities and equipment.
- Ability to assume responsibility for the overall operation and security of the fitness centre in the absence of supervisory staff.
- Ability to maintain general records of fitness centre usage.
- Ability to maintain control and exercise discipline with tact and consistency.
- Ability to perform artificial respiration or cardiopulmonary resuscitation as appropriate in case of emergency or to provide other first aid treatment as needed.
- Skill in the use of fitness centre equipment.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
- BC Recreation and Park Association Basic Fitness Leaders – Weight Training (or equivalent).
- Standard First Aid Certificate.
- CPR Certification.
- Criminal Record Check
HOURS OF WORK:
This is an Auxiliary position with no ongoing regular schedule of hours.
