POSITION OVERVIEW:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Information & Privacy Coordinator with the Police Services department. This position is responsible for responding to requests for information under the Access to Information and Privacy Act while ensuring adherence to legislative requirements related to the release of information. The role is responsible for interpreting and applying relevant legislation and RCMP policy.
The ideal candidate will have superior written and oral communications, interpersonal, customer-service and conflict resolution skills; strong critical/analytical thinking, problem-solving, dispute resolution and capable of multi-tasking while balancing the need to resolve issues quickly with an effective thorough analysis and ability to identify and take appropriate steps to mitigate risks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the legislation, rules, regulations, practices and procedures governing applicable departmental operations and activities.
Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic and of modern office practices and procedures.
Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Ability to make decisions in the light of established precedents and to exercise resourcefulness in dealing with new situations.
Sound knowledge of software applications used in the work performed.
Ability to prepare, maintain, update and retrieve a variety of lists, manuals and related materials manually and/or using a computer terminal, and to search records and compile information.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide advice, information and assistance to same.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work under pressure and to exercise tact and persuasiveness in dealing with contentious matters.
DESIREABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by commercial courses preferably supplemented with FOI training, plus considerable related experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
