POSITION OVERVIEW:

The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a visionary Manager of Development Engineering to drive the city’s growth by overseeing engineering plans for subdivisions and other developments. In this key role, you'll lead a talented team, influence policy decisions, and ensure projects meet the highest standards. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of a University degree in Civil or Structural Engineering plus a minimum of five years of municipal related engineering experience at a supervisory level or higher, in the field of transportation/traffic operations and design, with strong knowledge of municipal development of transportation facilities. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of building codes and applicable bylaws. Expertise in modern building materials and building trade practices, as well as local soil and climatic conditions and their effect upon various types of construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Local Government Act and the Community Charter.
  • Thorough knowledge of municipal administration and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of building design and construction, including a working knowledge of electrical, plumbing and heating installations. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to deal tactfully, efficiently and effectively with owners, contractors, Municipal, Government, Court Business and other officials and the general public.
  • Ability to draft bylaws, contracts and produce concise and complex analysis and reports. Ability to interpret technical reports and to provide advice and guidance on a variety of regulatory, legislative and administrative matters.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with legislation, policies and guidelines objectively with firmness, tact and discretion.
  • Ability to provide leadership in order to motivate and inspire staff.
  • Strong time management and cost containment skills in directing day-to-day operations and managing projects.
  • Ability to recognize, evaluate, make recommendations and assign resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of the fundamentals involved in the preparation of business plans.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills demonstrated through the ability to facilitate, mediate, network, research, analyze and resolve issues.
  • Ability to plan, assign, supervise, evaluate work of team members, including the ability to motivate and enable the career development of team members; to set work measurement and productivity standards and to evaluate employee performance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to represent the department as required.
  • Strong customer service skills and excellent communication skills, both oral and written, which includes preparation of research and statistical reports.
  • Ability to speak effectively to groups and associations and meet and deal effectively with a variety of internal and external groups, associations, officials and representatives.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGBC
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence

 HOURS OF WORK:

  • 80 Hours Bi-weekly
