POSITION OVERVIEW

Embark on a dynamic career with the City of Maple Ridge, where you will actively contribute to manual maintenance tasks.

Join our team and be a key player in fostering the vibrancy and growth of Maple Ridge while gaining valuable experience in a challenging and rewarding setting. As a valued member of the two-person Downtown Clean Team, you will play a vital role in cleaning and maintaining the City's downtown core. Your responsibilities will include litter pickup and removal, graffiti removal, pressure washing, sign and street furniture maintenance, as well as vegetation removal.

This role may involve working in potentially hazardous conditions and utilizing specialized skills. As part of the team, you might be assigned to various supervisors, adding variety and richness to your work experience. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Considerable experience in civil construction and municipal maintenance work.  Some training and knowledge in the operation of small power equipment such as saws and rollers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and materials used in civil construction and Municipal Maintenance work;
  • Must have the ability to understand, carry-out and effectively communicate to fellow employees, oral and written instructions from a supervisor;
  • Considerable skill in the proper and safe use of a variety of hand and power tools related to the work;
  • Ability to keep simple records of the work performed;
  • Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions;
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies;
  • Must show independence of judgment in the performance of duties and work with a minimum of supervision;
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate: small rollers, a variety of power saws, jack hammers, oil sprayers, vibrators, concrete mixer and drive light duty trucks.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a safe driving record is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Team Collaboration: Collaborates effectively with a crew to accomplish assigned tasks in a professional and competent manner, demonstrating knowledge of road maintenance techniques.
  • Vehicle Operation: Capable of occasionally operating light to medium duty trucks.
  • Versatile Labor: Engages in both skilled and unskilled labor to ensure the efficient operation of the division, following departmental and divisional policies.
  • Equipment Operation: Proficient in using power tools, including pressure washers, weed trimmers, brushing trimmers, and cut-off saws.
  • Public Interaction: Requires an interest and ability in dealing with the public, coupled with self-starting qualities and the ability to work independently.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Driver's License: Possession of a valid B.C. Class 3 Driver's License with air brake endorsement or heavy equipment operation experience enhances opportunities for advancement.

This is a temporary full-time position for approximately six (6) months which may be extended or concluded at any time.

Work Hours: The position operates on a Wednesday to Sunday schedule, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
