POSITION OVERVIEW

Are you passionate about working with children in a professional, recreational environment? The City of Maple Ridge is seeking individuals eager to embark on a rewarding journey of learning and growth. Join us and discover how to lead groups of children aged 3 to 12 years old in exciting, safe, and inclusive experiences both indoors and outdoors this summer.

As part of our team, you'll engage in collaborative and mentoring environments, fostering active and social opportunities for children. The ideal candidate will possess some volunteer or work experience in leading children, demonstrating a genuine enthusiasm for recreation games and activities. Strong listening skills are a must, along with the ability to take direction from senior staff and supervisors. Effective communication within teams is essential to ensure understanding and adherence to policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 10, plus some relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Some knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction of recreation programs.
  • Some knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work.
  • Ability to provide leadership and instruction for special events, programs, camps and other activities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, communicating and collaborating well with others
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively with program participants.
  • Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C.

HOURS OF WORK

  • This is an Auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access).
